Bob Stangel relocated with his family from Nebraska to Southern California in 1957.  He was an outstanding athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball.  Bob earned a football scholarship to play at the University of Oregon.  Yet in 1960, Bob decided to return to the Inland Empire and enroll at Chaffey College and play on the football team.  Bob, the team's quarterback, led the Panthers to an undefeated season.

Bob continued his education and football career at Long Beach State where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education with a minor in Social Science.  Bob had always been passionate for sports and had an aptitude for coaching.  He earned his first coaching position immediately after graduating from Long Beach State, and shortly thereafter landed a full-time head football coach position at Notre Dame High School in Riverside.

Bob earned his Master's degree from Azusa Pacific University the same year he accepted a position at Sunnyvale High School in Northern California.  He spent one year at Sunnyvale before taking the opportunity to be the head football and baseball coach at Mt San Jacinto College.  Bob became the 8th most successful community college football coach in the nation and 5th in the state of California.  Coach Stangel retired in 2003 after coaching the Mt San Jacinto Eagle for 26 seasons.

Coach Stangel has been recognized by Notre Dame High School, Mt San Jacinto College, and the state coaches association for his contributions to football.
