PANTHERS GRAB 12TH INNING WIN AGAINST SOUTHWESTERN
The Panthers opened the 2020 home season this afternoon hosting Southwestern and going 12 innings before grabbing their first win of the season 4-3.
The Jags came out strong loading the bases in the first inning and bringing in a quick two to start the game. Sophomore Cooper Way opened the bottom of the first with a double and Colby Sims brought him across the plate to end the first inning with the Jags up 2-1. Southwestern again scored in the 3rd and the 3-1 board held until the 5th when Bradley Chesterton doubled bringing in Jason DuMont and Jiovanni Delgado tying the game at 3-3.
Six innings went by scoreless. In the bottom of the 12th, with the threat of a called game for darkness, the Panthers got two on base courtesy of walks. With Colby Sims on 3rd and Darren Taylor on 1st, Sims was able to score on a wild pitch to end the game and give the Panthers the win.
"Matt Flores stepped up and proved that he is going to be a major contributor this year and a key component to our pitching staff," commented Head Coach Mike Cordero. "His performance is one of the best I have seen at this level."
On the mound today were Ryan Buckley (starter), Matthew Flores who put in 7 innings, and Zuko (John) Tillman who closed the game out for the Panthers coming in at the start of the 11th inning.
The men host Golden West Thursday afternoon.
