PANTHERS STRUGGLE AGAINST GROSSMONT
It was a frustrating night Saturday under the light at Grigsby as the Panthers took on Grossmont College, falling 17-10. Multiple times, Chaffey took the ball within 20 yards of the endzone only to be pushed back by fouls and a strong Griffin defense.
Sophomore kicker Erick Ware (San Dimas) put the Panthers on the board for the first time with a 30-yard field goal to close out the half. Coming out of the locker room after the break, the Panthers had a renewed energy and a series of plays by sophomore QB Connor Mire brought the Chaffey men within sight of the endzone again. Derrione Leeper had the final 4-yard rush to score for the Panthers - taking Chaffey within reach at 14-10.
But the Griffins scored a 4th quarter fieldgoal with 2 minutes remaining and the Panthers could not get within TD range to tie the game.
The men travel to Palomar this weekend.
