PANTHERS CLAIM AMERICAN METRO TITLE WITH WIN AT WEST LA
The Panthers clinched the American Metro title Saturday with a 50-19 win at West LA. This is Chaffey's 2nd consecutive football conference championship, Coach Hadaway's 3rd, and continues the Panthers' winning streak (longest in the state).
For the 2nd consecutive game, the Panthers opened play with an immediate score with a field length kickoff return, this time in the arms of Tyler Sweet (92 yards). Scoring continued in their next opportunity with a 33-yard pass from Caleb Arreola to Jeff Ward. A 41-yard fieldgoal by Nick Lawson took the Panthers to a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the 2nd period, Javian Lofton Wilson managed the only scoring play for either team off a 37-yard pass from Arreola. At the half, the Panthers lead 26-9.
After the break, the Panthers were again first on the board with another Lawson fieldgoal. Tavoi Hoching followed it up with a 11 yard pass from Arreola. Hoching scored again in the final period. Omari Sanders got the final TD of the regular season also off an Arreola pass.
Arreola, who holds the Chaffey record for single game touchdowns, added five to his career record. Nick Lawson had another perfect game going 2/2 on fieldgoals and 6/6 on extra points.
The conference champion Panthers have a BYE this week as many other teams in the south play the final week of the season. Chaffey will return to the field November 23rd for an SCFA bowl game; information to be posted when available.
