PANTHERS PUT UP STRONG 3RD QUARTER AGAINST LONG BEACH
The Panthers were on the road Saturday taking on Long Beach City College.
Ten minutes into the 1st quarter the Vikings were up by 10 points but a Tayvonne Miller 2 yard run into the endzone with just over a minute left in the period closed the gap and sent the teams into the 2nd quarter separated by three. It would be LBCC's early fieldgoal that would plague the Panthers to the end.
The 2nd quarter saw the teams with one touchdown each - Chaffey's coming off a 27-yard pass from Nicholas Poulos to Julian Banks. At the half, the score was 17-14.
The Chaffey men came out blazing after the break, scoring 14 points and holding the Vikings scoreless. Tayvonne Miller again crossed into the endzone followed up by a pass from Poulos to Rjay Tagataese to put the Panthers in the lead for the first time all night, 28-17. But the final quarter did not bode well for Chaffey as Long Beach scored twice and then intercepted the ball on Chaffey's final possession to clinch the game by three.
Poulos had 229 yards passing and 107 yards rushing. Banks led the Panthers, receiving a total of 82 yards on the night.
Kicker Jacob Meneses was 4:4 on extra points but struggled on fieldgoals, missing two opportunities. Sophomore Tausagafou Ho Ching had eight tackles including seven solos to lead the Panther defense that also had strong showings from Jamarius Isaac, Alexander Rodriguez, and Eric Race that added seven each.
The Panthers host Ventura Saturday night.
