PANTHERS PLOWING THROUGH THE IEAC - DEFEATING MT SAN JACINTO BY 17
The Panther men are on a roll, defeating their last 6 opponents including today's 71-54 win over Mt San Jacinto. The Eagles, like the Panthers, came into today's game undefeated in conference. The two teams have had a long rivalry dating back to the Foothill Conference days and are both regularly ranked at both the regional and state level. Today's match-up sets the stage for the IEAC championship showdown.
Against the Eagles, the Panthers were led by sophomore Darren Williams and freshman Donyae Molett. Each put up 16 points and 4 rebounds. Fellow starters Aaron Johnson and Manu Oulai also had standout performances with Oulai showing how the state rebound leader performs (adding 17 to his season total). Johnson had the team's only double-double of the game with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Rounding out the five, Chase Evans added 12 to the board.
The Panthers outpaced San Jacinto at all levels, with the Panthers going 85.2 from the line. Chaffey led by 11 at the half and brought the heat to both periods of play, never letting up. Although close at some points in the first 20 minutes, Chaffey took the lead 1/2 way through and maintained until the end of regulation play.
"We controlled the game," said sophomore forward Manu Oulai. "We shot better than them, we executed our plays, and we had a solid defense."
The Panthers have a break this week, returning to the Sports Center next Saturday to take on Barstow at 3pm.
