Bio

The 2020 season will be the first for John Hallman as the Panthers' head men's swim coach.  John is excited to begin and continue a strong Panther swim squad.   His 25 plus years of coaching at 4-year and 2-year college institutions will bring a lot of experience and insight to the Panther swim team.

John started his coaching at Cal State Northridge as a strength and asst. coach right after he finished his competitive swimming at Northridge.   In his two years at Northridge he helped the Lady Matadors to two NCAA Div II National Championships.  He then moved to Citrus College and became the associate head coach and went on to two conference championships and was named coach of the year twice.  After Citrus College, he started up the University of La Verne  from scratch and was the head coach for 15 years taking 5 teams to the national championships.  Now John is looking to build on the tradition of the Panther swim team at Chaffey College.

John’s own swimming career was very similar to what he expects the Panther swimmer’s path will go through.  John started swimming at Citrus College after earning All-American in high school.  John was the State Champion his freshman year and was 2nd in the country his sophomore year at Citrus College earning “Athlete of the Year” .  He went on to swim at NCAA Div II national powerhouse Cal State Northridge his final two years and was a National Finalist and team captain.  Following Cal State Northridge, John earned his masters degree in education from APU.

John lives in in La Verne with his two children Marcus and Kate.
