Panther Softball has their busiest week of the season, playing five games including a doubleheader Saturday and two road contests. Yesterday, the team traveled to College of the Canyons dropping a disappointing 9-0 five inning contest. Chaffey managed three hits against the Cougars including two by Nalissa Garcia. Garcia also pitched the complete game.
Today, the Panthers hosted Rio Hondo. This is the first year Chaffey and Rio have not been in the same conference, first as Foothill foes and then as members of the South Coast North Conference. The Roadrunners were first to score posting a single run in the first. The Panthers came out strong in the 2nd scoring three with Brianna Utley, Allysia Victorino, and Natalia Cerpa crossing the plate for the Panthers. Rio scored two in the 3rd to tie the game which is where it sat until the 6th when a Roadrunner run scored taking the teams into the 7th with RH up by one. The top of the 7th got away from the Panthers with Rio Hondo scoring five and the Panthers unable to get a runner home. "We came on strong scoring three in the second and then held them until the final inning," commented sophomore infielder Allysia Victorino. Final score 9-3.
The ladies travel to Cypress tomorrow for a 2:30 game then have a break Friday. Saturday the team plays a doubleheader at home, hosting LA Mission College beginning at 11am.
