MARTIN RETURNS TO RACING - PANTHERS FINISH MT SAC 2ND PLACE
Five Lady Panthers took on the grueling Mt SAC course Friday, completing the race with a 2nd place team finish. Sophomore Svetlana Martin ran for the first time since the So CA Preview finishing the race 2nd overall with a 19:33 time - beating her personal record set in her senior year of high school. "The race for second place was tight," said Coach Lander. "Svetlana put the others away with an OUTSTANDING downhill."
Freshman Audrie Torres who has been leading the Panthers this season also set a personal best and had her fastest time this year. "I loved seeing Audrie run next to Svetlana for the first mile! She had an excellend final 400 meters on the airstrip, showing superb turnover."
Also appearing in the top 14 was Mixtli Aguilar Guzman who improved her personal best by over a minute. Mixtli showed incredible strength, passing countless runners in the switchbacks and finishing strong. Sonia Tuia improved her time for the year finishing 21st. Ashley Payan made her season debut allowing the Panthers to score as a team rather than individually. Payan finished respectably in the middle of the pack, 33 out of 60 runners.
The ladies host the IEAC Championship this Friday morning with the course traveling through Chaffey's Rancho Campus.
