PANTHERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH WIN AT HOME VS GLENDALE
The men continue their winning streak of 16 consecutive wins, six this season with a decisive 56-3 victory over the Glendale Vaqueros at home tonight. Leading the charge at QB was Caleb Arreola who garnered 247 yards (most in the 1st half) scoring three touchdowns on the night. A 36-yard bomb to Omari Sanders opened the game with the Panthers scoring in the first drive of the night. It was Caleb's 3rd pass to Sanders of the five plays that resulted in the 7-0 start of the game. Arreola is currently #7 in the state for passing yards averaging 261.8/game with an efficiency rating of 170.5. Maximillian Davila entered in the 2nd half putting up 103 yards passing and in Davila fashion, 25 yards rushing. Davila accounted for three of the Panthers' 8 TDs including a 50-yard shot to Tyler Sweet who is #5 in the state for receivers averaging 97.3 yards/game.
With only two kickoffs by the Vaqueros, a 49 yard return by defensive back Zen Gonzalez started the 3rd drive of the game. Gonzalez' rush to the Vaqueros 31 put the Panther offense in prime position. Four plays later, Chaffey again scored; the first of seven consecutive touchdowns.
Midway through the second quarter of play with the Panthers up 14-3, sophomore Musa Traylor blocked the Glendale punt attempt taking the ball back 20 yards before Joseph Lumingkewas brought it into the zone.
Kicker Nick Lawson was 6:6 on extra points tonight with a failed field goal attempt. Lawson's 49-yard punt in the 3rd quarter was his longest career punt. Lawson has been honored by the SCFA three times in the last two years and is currently one of the most successful kickers in the state, ranked #1 in points scored.
The Panthers have the longest winning streak in the state and are in the top five on every metric compiled by the CCCAA. In this week's polling, the Panthers were the highest ranked American Division team by the JC Athletic Bureau and the CCCSIA. Next week, Chaffey travels to LA Valley. Last year when the teams faced off, Chaffey was victoriuous in a close 29-27 battle. Valley is struggling this year and is 2-4 overall, forfeiting their game at Long Beach City and will be coming off a 48-0 loss to West LA.
