Panthers Battle in Five-Set Thriller Against West Coast Baptist
The Chaffey College volleyball team pushed Tuesday night's match to five sets but were edged out by West Coast Baptist College. The Panthers opened strong, taking the first and third sets, but the Eagles rallied late to claim the 3-2 win (24-26, 26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 15-11).
Lauren Medina led the Panthers' offense with 13 kills, 10 digs, and four service aces, finishing a team-high 17.5 points. Daija Harmon added five kills and four digs, while Maya Garza recorded three kills. At the net, Kasey Quevedo contributed five kills along with a solo block and two block assists, and Jade Serrano registered three kills and solid defensive play.
From the service line, the Panthers tallied 17 aces as a team. Madalyn Ayers-Morris delivered six aces to go along with 10 assists and seven digs, while Chloe Pulido added three aces and 10 assists. Grace Hoang and Aviana Langston each served two aces, with Hoang also collecting a team-high 19 digs to steady the backcourt.
Despite Chaffey's defensive effort, which included 69 total digs and five team blocks, the Eagles used late runs in both the fourth and fifth sets to clinch the victory.
The Panthers will look to bounce back on the road when they face LA Harbor College on Tuesday, September 9, at 5 p.m.
