PANTHERS UPSET DESERT WITH 8-4 WIN
It was a great day for Panther Baseball yesterday as the men took a first inning lead and never relented, giving Desert only their 2nd conference loss 8-4. "This was a good team win over the current conference leader," commented Head Coach Andy Smith. "COD has been playing very well of late, so it was good to come out and even the series (COD v Chaffey 3/1 9-6L)."
Holding the Roadrunners scoreless into the 7th inning, the Panthers had taken a 7-0 lead with runs scored by Jared Bujanda, Emilio Garcia, Steven Mara, Nate Slaman, Cole Howarth, and Zach Kim. A final run scored by Bradley Chesterton on a passed ball gave the Panthers their 8th run of the game.
"Zach and Emilio continue to add a ton of value not only defensively on the infield but at the bottom of the lineup as well. I'm very proud of both of those guys." Garcia stole home in the 2nd inning and Kim had two singles resulting in 3 RBIs.
Gabriel Alvarado earned his 1st collegiate win pitching the first three innings with no hits and no runs scored. Blake Griffin took over to start the 4th. "Gabe and Blake pitched an excellent game and we did great defensively throughout."
The Panthers continue the series with Desert tomorrow at COD 2:30pm.
