The Panthers faced off against Cerro Coso yesterday in the first of a three-game series falling to the Coyotes 8-5.
Chaffey put two on the board after a single by Cole Howarth drove in Steven Mara followed by an error that scored Howarth. A Marty Grisso single brought Zach Kim across home in the 4th. Kim had reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second to put him in scoring position.
In the 5th, Steven Mara got his 3rd double of the game to bring Jared Bujanda home. The final run by the Panthers was scored in the 7th off a Tyvon Moore sac fly to leftfield. "We just didn't do enough to win today," said Head Coach Andy Smith.
"I thought Gabe and Nate pitched very well, but a few balls fell in at opportune times for Cerro Coso, and we didn't do enough to respond offensively. Back to work tomorrow as we get another crack at them for a doubleheader this Saturday." Gabriel Alvarado pitched the first three with four hits, four runs, and four strikeouts. Blake Griffin relieved for one and then Nathaniel Garcia closed out the game.
Chaffey and Cerro Coso continue conference play this week with a doubleheader at Claremont HS on the 16th.
