The Panthers completed their IEAC series with Cerro Coso Saturday, splitting the doubleheader with a 2-1 loss and 13-1 win.
In game 1, the teams went scoreless until the bottom of the 6th when Chaffey's Javier Mendez singled to bring in Steven Mara. The Coyotes scored two in the top of the 7th to take the 7 inning game. "Tyler Tilton threw an outstanding ballgame and I was extremely proud of his efforts," commented Head Coach Andy Smith. "Unfortunately their guy Holzen was also excellent and we missed our chances to score some runs."
For game 2, Coso scored their sole run of the game early on, and starting in the 3rd the Panthers never let up. Jared Bujanda opened the game for Chaffey with an RBI fielder's choice followed in the 4th by a three RBI homerun. It was his 2nd HR of the season. Two runs in the 6th and then a stunning seven in the 8th including a three RBI homer by Zach Kim finaled out the game at 13-1. "It was good to see the offense respond with really good showings out of Clay Porter, Alex Cummings, and Jared Bujanda, among others. Pitching did a great job highlighted by Nathaniel Garcia reaching 90mph on his fastball for the first time."
The Panthers begin their three-game series with Barstow tomorrow.
