ANOTHER CONFERENCE WIN FOR PANTHER BASEBALL
The Panthers got their 13th conference win of the season yesterday with a 10-7 victory over Victor Valley.
It appeared that singles by Zach Kim and Jared Bujanda in the first two innings would set the tone for the away game but the Panthers then remained scoreless until the 6th inning, trailing the Rams 6-3. In the 6th, two unearned runs closed the gap to 6-5. A Zach Kim fielder's choice in the 7th, tied the game - giving Chaffey the opportunity for the eventual come-from-behind victory.
With two on base in the 8th, Clay Porter doubled for an RBI. Ricky Mejia then had a sac fly to leftfield - the Panthers were then up 8-6 with one out. Zach Kim returned to the plate for a single bringing Bujanda and Porter in. The Rams managed only one additional run, giving Chaffey the win.
Brynden Rodriguez opened the game; Braden Hofmeyer relieved after three innings. "Braden did an outstanding job taking back control of a game that started to go a little sideways early on," said Head Coach Andy Smith. "A combination of things led to us having to climb out of a hole and we were able to swing the bats enough in the last few innings to secure the win."
The Panthers have three conference games remaining; two at Victor Valley Friday and a home game vs Barstow on Saturday.
