PANTHERS GET WIN #18 - 70-14 V Santa Ana
Tonight's win (the Panthers' 18th consecutive) opened with a 96-yard kickoff return straight down the field 12 seconds into play by sophomore Zen Gonzales. That TD opened the floodgates for the Chaffey squad who went on to score 10 times; final 70-14.
The Panthers have had a record setting season so far and came into tonight's game as the state point leader having given up only 71 points all season - 11 in conference. Santa Ana had the ability to score and managed to tie Chaffey twice, a feat most other teams this season have failed to accomplish. The Dons also managed two critical interceptions on starting Chaffey QB Caleb Arreola.
But the Panther locomotive could not be stopped and the Dons' 2nd TD would be their last scoring opportunity as Chaffey barreled into the endzone over and over again.
As with recent games, Arreola remained in the game into the 3rd racking up 270 yards including a 64-yard bomb to Javian Lofton-Wilson that resulted in a TD for the dynamic duo. Arreola has already inserted himself in the Chaffey history book and may break several records before the 2019 season is complete.
Freshman Leven Cornish scored back-to-back touchdowns to end the 3rd and begin the 4th quarters of play. His 47-yard run was the first play of the drive and a season best for the Fontana running back.
Nick Lawson put up another perfect game - kicking 10 PATs. Lawson continues to lead the state in points scored.
The Panthers return to Grigsby next Saturday afternoon to take on LA Southwest in the final regular season home game of 2019. Kickoff 1pm.
