PANTHERS FALL TO SOUTHWESTERN IN FINAL MINUTES
Things were looking up for the Panthers Saturday as they took on Southwestern at home. Southwestern took a first quarter lead but by the end of the half, the Panthers had turned the tide leading 17-14. In the second quarter Ja Cari Williams intercepted the ball and ran it 91 yards to score the Panthers' 2nd TD. Chaffey closed out the half with a 42-yard field goal by Jacob Meneses. A field goal and a touchdown by the Jaguars in the 3rd gave SWC a 23-17 lead but near the close of the 4th, Chaffey scored again and took the board to 24-23 in the Panthers favor. Southwestern scored off a 51-yard field goal to take the score to 26-24. With less than 10 seconds on the clock it looked like the Panthers would take the game as they prepared for a 20-yard field goal. The Jags blocked the kick as the clock ran out.
Quarterback Kevin Lukasiewicz threw for 238 yards. Joseph Fitivale led the defense with four solo tackles and 7 assists.
The Panthers have a bye next Saturday and will return to begin their conference season on the 16th against Cerritos.
