The Panthers had a game plan tonight and they executed that plan according to Head Coach Jeff Klein. "To win, we needed to keep the ball in front of us, dominate the boards, and win the freethrow battle and that's what we did." From the first points on the board to the last, the Panthers led Canyons - up by 8 at the half and finaling out with a 95-75 victory.
"It was a great effort by freshman Chase Evans who had his best game as a Panther hitting 25 points, 9 rebounds, and going 85% at the line," commented Klein. Evans was "proud to be able to contribute to tonight's win." Evans was joined in double digits by Manu Oulai (20 pts/13 reb), Darren Williams (16 pts), and Dalton Clevenger (11 pts). The Panthers outshot Canyons, making 52.5% fieldgoals and 39.3% 3-pointers. In contrast, Canyons managed 40.3 and 25 on a strong Panther defense.
The Panthers take on undefeated, reigning CCCAA state champions, the Fullerton Hornets Friday night at 5pm. "We'll need to play the full 40 in order to win this important contest."
