Panther Softball is on a roll, winning their last eight games including two Saturday against visiting Santa Barbara. The Panthers came out strong in both games following through to the end to make for a long but victorious day.
In game 1 vs the Vaqueros, Chaffey gave up three runs in the first inning but by the bottom of the second it was all tied up. The Panthers added two in the 4th and locked it up with four in the 6th. Rightfielder Alyah Rueff had 2 hits including a triple. Violet Salazar started on the mound taking the first five innings, striking out five. Isabella Anzueto was on relief in to open the 6th, she closed out the game with one run and two strikeouts.
Less than 30 minutes later the teams were back out on the field to do it all over again. Scoreless until the 3rd inning, Santa Barbara scored two but a six-run rally in the bottom of the inning set the tone for the rest of the game. Violet Salazar (at second base for the second game) had a 3 RBI homer - her third this season. Final score 7-3. Celeste Paniagua took the first six on the mound for the win. Anzueto was also on relief for game two - this time facing off against five batters to close out the game.
"In both games we fell behind early but I liked our resilience and how we answered quickly and played flawless defense in protecting our lead," said Head Coach Jerry Tivey. "Our pitchers all gave really solid performances, as well."
The Panthers travel to Antelope Valley tomorrow for their last pre-conference game of the season and will host Desert Friday for an IEAC opening doubleheader beginning at noon.
