The Panthers upped their winning streak to six Saturday with back-to-back wins against the Oxnard Condors. In game 1, Chaffey held Oxnard to one run with an 8-1 win. With a closer game 2, the Panthers were victorious 5-3.
Violet Salazar got her 8th season win going the complete 7 innings, striking out five and giving up a solo hit/run. At bat, Salazar had three singles and two RBIs. Shortstop Marissa Marquez had three hits; a triple and two doubles resulting in three RBIs for the game. Marquez was also responsible for three double plays.
On the mound for game 2, Isabella Anzueto also completed the game for the win, striking out five batters. At the plate she had two hits, one run, and an RBI. With the Panthers leading 5-1 going into the final inning, the Condors came out swinging scoring 2 runs and putting themselves in place to steal the game away for Chaffey. But the Chaffey defense went into high gear and shutdown their hopes to capture the win 5-3.
"Overall today our defense was outstanding while turning four double plays. Offensively it's nice to see Marissa Marquez coming around (she hasn't had many at bats due to a shoulder injury but is really hitting her stride now)," said Coach Tivey. "Coralyn Garcia had some good at-bats today, as well. Violet Salazar and Izzy Anzueto both pitched very effectively to pick up the wins."
The Panthers take on San Bernardino Valley Wednesday afternoon at home.
