Panther Softball continues to steamroll its way through the IEAC season getting two more shutout wins (#5 and 6 for the season) Friday at Cerro Coso. Both games went five innings.
In game 1, Violet Salazar pitched a one hit game, striking out nine. Violet also led at the plate with three runs, two hits, and one RBI. "Violet Salazar pitched a strong game for her 11th win of the season," said Head Coach Jerry Tivey. "She allowed only a 5th-inning infield single but struck out 9, as she surpassed 100 strikeouts in her collegiate career. Violet also had a pair of hits and scored three runs from the leadoff position."
"Lorissa Avila continued her clutch hitting by adding four RBI and scoring a run." Final score 8-0.
In game 2, the Panthers were 9-0 with Isabella Anzueto earning the no-hitter game win. Anzueto struck out 7. "Izzy tossed a gem, pitching her first collegiate no-hitter and striking out seven, allowing only 2 walks. She also went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI."
"Marisa Marquez added two more hits, scored a run and tallied an RBI while playing flawless defense," Tivey added
Coach Tivey summed up the day: "We knew we had to come out focused and we did that for both games. We've been playing really strong defense but today we added a bit more offense, which was good to see. We're working on improving the details and I think it's beginning to show in our performance."
The Panthers take on the Coyotes again Wednesday at home.
