PANTHERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH 7-2 HOME WIN
The Panthers began a 4-game home stand by hosting the Saddleback Bobcats on Wednesday afternoon. Chaffey began the season with four straight wins and starting pitcher Alexya Naranjo (Norco) was named CCCAA Player of the Week just prior to the game.
Saddleback struck first with a two-out solo home run in the top of the first but Chaffey responded in big fashion by putting four on the board in their half of the inning.
Katie Avellaneda (Rancho Cucamonga) led off with a single and was moved over to second on a sacrifice by Clarissa Banuelos (Rancho Cucamonga). Marisa Marquez (Upland) continued her hot hitting with an RBI double to tie the game. After an error and a groundout, Alyah Rueff (Baldwin Park) singled in a run and then Viki Esparza (Chino) followed that with a 2-run double to make it 4-1.
The Panthers later added runs on a Marisa Marquez RBI single and a two-run single by Hailey Marquez (Bonita).
Naranjo tossed 5 innings, scattering 4 hits and striking out two, allowing just one earned run to pick up her third win of the year. Tori Morton (Roosevelt) came on in relief, throwing two scoreless innings as Chaffey moved to 5-0 on the season.
The Panthers banged out 16 hits, with Marisa Marquez and Viki Esparza leading the way with three each, including 2 doubles by each of them. Alyah Rueff and Lexi Alaniz-Diaz (Rancho Cucamonga) each added a pair of singles.
