Panther Softball took to the road yesterday for their first playoff chance of the 2023 season, falling to #16 Allan Hancock by one run. The Panthers were seeded #17 in the south.
The Hancock Bulldogs came out swinging, scoring four runs in the 1st inning. The board stayed at 4-0 until the top of the 3rd when Coie Carter singled up the middle to score Victoria Esparza who had previously reached on a fielder's choice. Carter then stole second before Alyah Rueff doubled down the rightfield line to bring Carter in. With two outs and bases loaded, Lexi Alaniz-Diaz singled scoring two more runs to tie it up. Cora Garcia then singled for an RBI, closing out the inning with the Panthers ahead 5-4.
Hancock tied it up again in the 7th and took the game with a 2-out walkoff in the 8th.
Alexya Naranjo pitched five innings giving up 8 hits and four runs. Tori (Victoria) Morton put forth the final 2.2.
The Panthers complete the 2023 season 25-15 overall and IEAC Champions.
