Jada Cuellar Women's Basketball freshman |
Athletics staff members have selected basketball student-athletes Jada Cuellar and Uriyah Rojas as the February Panthers of the Month. Cuellar (freshman, Rancho Cucamonga) capped off the Women’s Basketball season on a high note. She averaged 9 points on 57% shooting, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals vs two of the top 8 ranked teams in the state (#5 MSJC and #8 Victor Valley). Jada was selected as 2nd Team All-Conference separating herself among a very strong pool of heavily Sophomore guards. |

Fatimah Sani comes to Chaffey from Dubai, UAE. In her first season of collegiate play, Sani is averaging 10.4 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game. She shoots just over 43% from the floor and set the pace for the Panthers in their first month of conference play. |

Breonna Martinez continued her strong play in the month of December leading the Panther Women’s Basketball team at 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game. The team captain currently sits at 5th place in the IEAC in total points scored and 4th in points per game in spite of having to sit out of three games due to injury. She scored a career high 31 points in a win on December 9 vs ranked host Allan Hancock. |

Sydney Cotter |
Sydney Cotter scored the game winning goal against Santa Barbara that propelled the Panthers into the state final four championship bracket. She had 13 goals on the season including scoring in 4:5 playoff games. Cotter is a two-time IEAC 1st team All-Conference honoree and was recently named a United Soccer Coaches All-American. |

Andrea Baerenwald had TWO top-10 individual finishes this month: 1) 9th place at Chaffey College Invite. 2) 4th place at IEAC Championships (All Conference 1st team!). Our top female runner all season long, leading our team to a Southern California Championships qualifier. |

Banuelos is a multi-sport student-athlete. competing on the conference championship Chaffey Softball team as well. |

Marissa Marquez (Softball) Marisa has worked hard to recover from a shoulder injury and now leads the team in hitting at .481 and has 14 RBI's and has scored 14 runs along with 5 doubles and three home runs in her last 17 games. The freshman shortstop is a team leader on and off the field, carrying a 3.7 GPA. |

Jaylynn Rodriguez has had a strong start to the competitive season dominating the butterfly at regional and conference meets. Only halway through her freshman season, Rodriguez has already entered the Top 10 list for the 50, 100, and 200 events. She has had first place finishes at all SCC events this season and a 3rd place finish at the Mt SAC Invitational. |

Violet Salazar |
Violet Salazar competed for Panther Softball on the 2020 team whose season was cut short due to the COVID lockdown. She returned to Panther Field this season resuming her command of the mound and plate. She is 5-2 as a pitcher with 3.63 ERA, and 29 strikeouts in 34 innings. At the plate, she is .396 with 17 extra-base hits, 18 RBI and 22 runs scored. |

Elyanna Rios is a two-season sophomore for the Panthers. Rios came to Chaffey from Chaffey High School. She has consistently lead the Panthers throughout her career. In January's IEAC play, Rios had a double-double (20 points, 10 assists, 6 rebs) against Palo Verde going 5:10 from the 3-pt line. Then she went for 23 points against Mt. San Jacinto - 100% from the FT line, 5:10 again from the 3-pt line, and she added 3 assists and 2 steals. "She has really stepped up her game and not just offensively, she's been defending very well too." |

Sophomore forward/defender Kaylen Gonzalez led the Panthers to their third consecutive conference title and into CCCAA playoffs. She was named IEAC Player of the Year, scoring 18 goals in 15 games. She was recently named an All-SoCA, All-State, and All-American honoree. |

Aria Massey |
Aria Massey is a veteran water polo player but new to the sport of competitive swim. Playing both at Chino Hills HS and for the Panthers, Massey was recruited to play by former Head Coach Breck Weiny. When Head Coach Kayle Morris took over she spotted potential in Massey and convinced her to give lane swimming a try." "Aria came to me this season with no competitive swim background. Now after two meets she is competing in numerous different events, and dropping time each meet. She has shown a lot of dedication in learning all the technique and rules with swimming. She works hard each and everyday, and has the drive to just continue to get better. She has picked up competitive swimming quickly and will only keep improving this entire season," said Coach Morris. Massey, a Chaffey scholar-athlete, is a nursing major and hopes to transfer next year. When she's not in the pool she heads to the beach to bodyboard and spend time with family and friends. |

Sydnee Torrence |
Sydnee Torrence is one of only two sophomores on this year's women's basketball team. As a veteran Panther, Torrence has been called upon to lead and mentor the freshman talent of the 19-20 team. "In the absence of two other post players, Syd has stepped up in conference play," commented Head Coach Tasha Burnett. "She has upped her points per game, rebounds per game, and assists per game. She has also been a defensive force for us in the paint. She has done all of this while having to play many more minutes with very limited sub opportunities." Torrence is a criminal justice major with a goal of becoming a probation officer. She chose Chaffey for what it had to offer her on the court and in the classroom. Torrence is a two time Chaffey College Scholar-Athlete honoree. "This team is a group of unique individuals," said Torrence. "Each person contributes something different to our success. Coach is very helpful and caring. She always makes herself available for us when we need her." Torrence is a product of Etiwanda High School where she played three years for the Eagles. Outside of school and basketball, Syd spends her time playing music, drawing and hanging out with her friends. |

Harjinder Takher |
Harjinder Takher joins the Panthers for her freshman season from Rancho Cucamonga High School. Jinder has been a standout for the Chaffey squad, amassing over 100 points in December and averaging 15.4 points/game, with 8 double-doubles in the first two months of the season. "Jinder plays an aggressive game, attacking the basket and is a top rebounder for us," commented Head Coach Tasha Burnett. Takher is in the top five scorers in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference as the Panthers officially open the conference season later today. Jinder is pursuing a psychology major at Chaffey. "I took psych in high school and really enjoyed it." Takher played basketball at RCHS all four years. |

Karla Garcia-Limon |
Karla Garcia-Limon is a two-time all-conference athlete that has led the Panthers to back-to-back conference championships and state playoff appearances. This year, Karla has also served as the team captain of the 17-3-2 Chaffey squad. Karla ends her sophomore season at Chaffey as the conference assist leader (15), ranked #3 in the state. After the Panthers' recent defeat of San Bernardino Valley, Karla couldn't stop smiling. "It felt so good to beat Valley on our home field. It's what they did to us in playoffs last year." That win secured a 2019 playoff bid for the Chaffey team. Advancing to round 2 of playoffs after defeating Santa Monica (11/23/19) was Karla's best memory of the season. Karla is a kinesiology major at Chaffey but hopes to transfer to Cal State LA to pursue a degree in communication studies and continue her athletic career. When she's not busy playing soccer, studying or catching up on sleeping and eating, her favorite destination is Disneyland. Coach Grace:"Karla is a great reflection of the type of student-athlete we look for. She is a successful student and a phenomenal soccer player. She is our captain and leads by example on and off the field. She is one of the hardest working girls on this team. She has an amazing attitude and brings fun and laughter to our team!" |

Kendall Mency |
Kendall Mency has led the IEAC leading Panthers all season. Kendall has racked up 226 kills this season and has been instrumental in the Panthers’ eleven 3-0 sweep games. Kendall earned her 500th career kill September 28th against Santa Barbara. She is ranked #10 in the STATE for kills/set (3.90) and is likely to hit 700 by the end of the 2019 season Kendall is a driving force on the Chaffey team and is a leader on and off the court. Kendall is already being scouted by four-year colleges and hopes to continue playing volleyball at the next level while pursuing a degree in kinesiology and preparing for a career in physical therapy. Kendall is a graduate of Chino Hills High School where she lettered in volleyball three years. She was also a member of four club teams. She chose Chaffey for its coaching staff, welcoming environment, family atmosphere, and location. “Kendall is an extremely competitive student-athlete. "Throw me to the wolves and I'll come back leading the pack." Freshman Audrie Torres has done just that in the Panthers' first two meets of the 2019 season. Torres comes to Chaffey from Etiwanda High School where she ran for the Eagles all four years. In her collegiate debut (9/13 at the SoCA Preview San Diego), Audrie put up a respectable 21:12 finish, crossing the line 24th. The following week, Torres finished the Golden West Invite in 13th place improving her time to 20:54. The Panther women are now ranked #14 in Southern California. Audrie is an English major. | |
