Athletic Training Aide Volunteer Program
Become an Athletic Training Aide Volunteer!
What is an Athletic Training Aide? Aides are volunteers who help out the Certified Athletic Trainers in various non-patient care duties inside and outside of the athletic training clinic and at athletic contests. Athletic training aides are NOT the same as a certified athletic trainers and do NOT assist in the care or treatment of athletic injuries or medical conditions.
What do Athletic Training Aides do? Aides assist in all of the following and more:
- Sanitization of athletic training clinic and supplies
- Hydration of student athletes
- Set-up and clean-up of athletic training medical tent before sport games
- Maintain supplies and equipment
- Communication during athletic contests to ensure student athletes are getting care from certified athletic trainers
Why should I become an Athletic Training Aide? Besides getting to see the ins and outs of the daily tasks of certified athletic trainers, Athletic Training Aides learn and are exposed to a broad amount of skills from:
- Full-time and part-time athletic trainers
- Physicians at some home athletic contests
- Athletic Training students from various accredited Master of Athletic Training Programs who are working toward their Athletic Training degree and certifications
- Other collegiate level volunteers
Aides also learn soft skills such as communication, time management, and organization. If interested in the pathway to becoming a certified athletic trainer, athletic training aides can use these volunteer hours to count towards the hours needed to apply for an accredited Master of Athletic Training Program.
What do I need to become an Athletic Training Aide? We prefer that you are first aid and CPR certified, have an interest in athletic training as a career path, and have taken KinLec 2: Intro to Athletic Training (or a similar course). Chaffey students currently enrolled in the Athletic Training Aide program will be given priority.
How do I become an Athletic Training Aide Volunteer? This is a highly competitive volunteer position due to the high interest level across campus. All candidates will be interviewed, and if chosen for the semester, will move forward to a background check. If you are interested, please contact both Sandra Harris and Stephanie Chuml.
