SHERYL HERCHENROEDER HONORED AS FIRST FEMALE CCCSIA BRASS TOP
[Sacramento, CA, March 28, 2024] – Chaffey College Public Information Specialist Sheryl Herchenroeder was honored today as the first female recipient of the California Community College Sports Information Association’s Brass Top Award. Herchenroeder was lauded for her 17 years of service to the college and her outstanding contributions to the statewide organization. The award, presented by CCCSIA at the 3C2A Spring Convention recognizes her decades-long dedication and unparalleled commitment to sports information.
As a longtime member of the sports information community, Herchenroeder has not only excelled in her professional endeavors but has also been a champion for inclusivity and progress within the field. Her unwavering dedication to breaking barriers and fostering diversity has earned her the respect and admiration of her peers.
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her career. "I am deeply honored to receive this award, especially as the first female recipient," Herchenroeder said. "This recognition is a testament to the progress we've made in creating a more inclusive and diverse sports information community."
Prior to Chaffey, Sheryl was at the forefront of AI-enhanced workouts and interactive fitness equipment as Director of Operations for an athletic training software company; traveling throughout the United States representing the company at major sporting events and trade shows, in addition to serving as a liaison to US Cycling and Ironman. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Cal Poly Pomona where she got her start in sports information. Throughout her career in both the public and private sectors, Sheryl has strived to promote the stories that embody the true spirit of sport.
Despite facing challenges along the way, Herchenroeder remained steadfast in her commitment to excellence. "Sports information is more than just statistics and headlines," she remarked. "It's about capturing the essence of human achievement and perseverance, and fostering meaningful relationships with student-athletes."
As Sheryl Herchenroeder prepares for retirement later this year, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of excellence and innovation. Her impact on the CCCSIA will be felt for years to come, and her pioneering spirit will continue to inspire future generations of sports professionals. “I'm heartened to see young women stepping into the field and into leadership roles within our organization.”
In addition to the Brass Top Award, she is also the 2021 recipient of Chaffey College’s Panther Pride Award; an honor given annually to someone who goes above and beyond, not only in their work, but in how they interact with and inspire those around them. Sheryl is a founding member of the college's LGBTQIA+ Advocates committee, has facilitated diversity/equity/inclusion workshops, was nominated as Staff of the Year, and spearheaded several on-campus kindness campaigns.
She has won numerous awards for media guides, print publications, and social media campaigns, has presented at statewide conferences on sports information and social media, and has sat on committees at the county, region and state level. She also served on the executive board of both CCCSIA and CCPRO.
