Laura Uribe came to Chaffey College from Jurupa Valley High School in Mira Loma where she was a four-year varsity member of the water polo team, leading the Jaguars to the CIF finals her junior and senior year and set Mountain View Conference records.  Uribe served as team captain and earned CIF first team honors both years.

In 2004, Laura joined the Panther Water Polo and Swim teams under the direction of Head Coach Jim Dopf.  Earning All-American honors both years at Chaffey, Uribe set a school record scoring 116 goals in 2004 and was named conference MVP in 2005 and was ranked among the state community college leaders in all major statistical categories..  In 2005, the Panther Women’s Swim team captured their first conference championship with Uribe finishing in the top eight in the 1650 freestyle.

While at Chaffey, Laura’s parents Elaine and Richard welcomed fellow Chaffey College athlete Petra Koudelkova into their home.  Petra, an exchange student from Czechoslovakia, also went onto earn All-American honors.  Laura graduated from Chaffey College with honors, earning an AA in University Studies.

Laura’s dedication in the pool and the classroom earned her a full scholarship to UC Davis in 2007.  At Davis, Laura earned All-American honors once again with the Aggies winning the Western Water Polo Association Conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Final Four her senior year.  Laura graduated UC Davis with her bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

A leader both in the pool and on the deck, Uribe has inspired younger athletes, serving as an assistant coach at Don Lugo High School in Chino, UC Davis, and Chaffey College.  In 2009, Laura raised $4,000 through Bike and Build, an organization that raised funds and awareness for affordable housing.  Laura pedaled 4,200 miles from Charleston, South Carolina to Santa Cruz, California, crossing 13 states and working on seven build sites.  She also volunteered her time working with at-risk youth in San Bernardino, helping them prepare for the high school exit exam through the Americorps service program.

Laura currently works as a pharmacy technician at Loma Linda Medical Center and is pursuing her nursing degree.
