The Panthers were at Irvine Valley last week coming up short against the Lasers 9-7. Chaffey took a first inning lead scoring two runs after back-to-back doubles by Cole Howarth and Bradley Chesterton followed by three in the second. Tyvon Moore had his first collegiate homer scoring two runs for the Panthers.
Up by five until the 4th, the Panthers maintained their lead until the 6th when IVC took it to 8-5. The Panthers scored an additional two in the 7th.
Brandon Wedge took the loss coming in in the 6th to relieve Garcia and Hofmeyer. Wedge did not complete the inning, pulled after IVC scored five in the inning. Rohrer and Rodarte finished off the game.
The Panthers continued play over the President's Day weekend at El Camino and Southwestern.
At El Camino, the Panthers again took an early lead and were up 6-1 after five innings. El Camino took the lead after a six-run rally in the 8th. A 9th inning single by Zach Kim brought in Adam Aguirre and Cole Howarth for a Panther 9-8 lead and eventual win.
Logan Hunt earned his firsts collegiate win coming in in the 8th to relieve Alvarado, Griffin and Rodarte. Hunt completed the game with no hits, no runs, and no walks.
On Saturday, Chaffey hosted Southwestern at Claremont High School. Runs in the first and second gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead going into the 3rd inning when the Jaguars tied up the game. A fifth inning five run series by the Jags put the Panthers behind 7-2 which expanded to ten by the 7th. Starting pitcher Josh Sandoval took the loss (his third) pitching the first seven with seven runs and nine hits.
The Panthers return to Irvine Valley Thursday.
