Panther Baseball took on College of the Desert yesterday, coming up short 9-6 against the Roadrunners. THe IEAC loss moves the Panthers to 1-1.
Up 4-2 after the 3rd inning, the Panthers led until the fifth inning when COD tied up the contest. Desert went on to score three in the 7th and two in the 8th. Late game runs for Chaffey were not enough to overcome the late rally by the Roadrunners.
Josh Sandoval started off on the mound pitching the first four. Tyler Tilton and Gabriel Alvarado took the next two. Marcos Contreras came in in the 7th, walking two batters and giving up three runs for the game loss. Hofmeyer, Rohrer, and Barerra closed out the game.
"We didn't quite play well enough in all phases of the game to beat a quality conference opponent," lamented Head Coach Andy Smith. "Our focus remains intact on continuous improvement, so we will get back to work and prepare for our next one." The Panthers next opportunity for conference redemption will come tomorrow at San Bernardino Valley (rain warning).
