BASEBALL GETS THEIR REVENGE - DEFEATS SAN JACINTO 11-7
"Winning a conference series is extremely important down the stretch and Saturday gave us the 3-1 series win over a good opponent," said Head Coach Andy Smith. The Panthers came back from a disappointing loss to Mt San Jacinto earlier in the week to defeat the Eagles 11-7.
Bats were swinging with the Panthers up 11-0 until the 8th inning when MSJC finally got on the board - putting up 7 runs in one inning of play. Brynden Rodriguez pitched the first six with only two hits and no runs scored. "Brynden once again was electric on the mound, running his fastball up to 91mph and stifling a good hitting team," remarked Smith.
"We were dominant for 8 of 9 innings, letting one big inning put a red mark on an otherwise exceptional team effort." Blake Griffin earned the save for the day coming in to close out the 8th and finish the game.
At the plate, the Panthers knocked two homers (Marty Grisso and Steven Mara) and had 11 hits overall including 8 singles.
"We're excited to get after first place COD this week," said Smith. The Panthers travel to Desert tomorrow for the first of a three game series. The last time the teams faced off (earlier this month), the Roadrunners pulled off a 9-6 win.
