PANTHERS NOT DETERRED - WILL TRY AGAIN VS VALLEY THIS WEEKEND
Panther Baseball hit a "bump in the road" yesterday against San Bernardino Valley according to Head Coach Andy Smith. "It was just a bump in the road," he remarked. "Our guys are playing good baseball of late but Valley just played a better game."
The Panthers fell 7-3 after taking a 2nd inning 2-0 lead with both runs coming courtesy of Valley errors. By the 5th inning Chaffey was down 5-2 when Nate Slaman doubled to centerfield to drive in Cole Howarth. Howarth had reached on a single. Despite ten hits, the Chaffey squad could not get past home beyond that.
On the mound for Chaffey to start the game was Tyler Tilton. Tilton went three before relief began with Josh Sandoval. Sandoval gave up three runs in the 4th. Braden Hofmeyer and Logan Hunt closed out the game. "Tyler Tilton and Braden Hofmeyer competed for us on the mound," commented Smith, "we just didn't do enough with the bats to support them."
"We know we need to handle business this weekend and split the series against SBVC to continue our momentum this last month of the season."
Yesterday's loss drops the #18 ranked Panthers to IEAC 2nd place, just one game behind Valley. Chaffey will get two more opportunities this week to take down the Wolverines - tomorrow at Claremont HS and Monday in San Bernardino.
