As the Panthers near the end of their regular season run, they need every win available for a chance at a playoff bid; they added two yesterday defeating Barstow 33-4 and 14-11.
"It was definitely an exciting offensive output for our guys," said Head Coach Andy Smith. The Panthers swept the Barstow three-game series.
"It was fun to see guys like Alex Cummings, Marty Grisso, and Steven Mara have that kind of success," Smith continued. Cummings had five runs in game 1, three hits (two homers) and nine RBIs. Pitcher Brandon Wedge came off the bench to hit a solo home run which "was a cool moment as well." In all the Panthers had four homeruns in game 1 alone. Tyler Tilton began the game on the mound taking the first two innings. He was followed by Thomas Cerecedes, Adam Aguirre, Josh Sandoval, and James Cantarero. The bullpen gave up only 7 hits for the complete game.
Game 2 went similarly with the Panthers securing a 14-11 win with all 11 Barstow runs coming in the final inning. Mara and Grisso added one HR each to their day's total. "We had some good moments, but still plenty of room for continued growth."
Ricky Rodarte opened the game, followed by Braden Hofmeyer, Jason Houlihan, Nathaniel Garcia, and Gabriel Alvarado. Alvarado covered the final 1.1, coming in when the Panthers were up by three to earn his 2nd career win.
The squad takes on Victor Valley next and then completed the IEAC season against Barstow on April 30th.
