A 10-7 win at Desert yesterday keeps the Panthers clearly in the top IEAC spot as the only undefeated team in conference play (11-0). As the Panthers slowly and methodically pick off the competition, a playoff run is likely.
Against Desert, Brynden Rodriguez took the mound starting Chaffey off in the opening three. With the Panthers down 4-2, Joshua Ver Kuilen came in to pitch three. A five run 6th inning that put the Panthers in the lead by one allowed Brock Mayer to come in to close. Ver Kullen got the win.
Down 2-0, a Roadrunner error and a Zach Kim sacrifice fly to centerfield opened scoring for Chaffey in the 2nd inning. But it was a strong 6th that secured the win. With solid hits and errors on the part of the COD squad, the Panthers were able to take a 7-6 lead, their first lead of the game.
In the 8th, Chaffey expanded the lead to 10-6 off a passed ball opportunity allowing Kim to snag home followed by a two RBI double by Clay Porter.
The Panthers travel to Desert Thursday and will play at home Saturday to finish off the three-game series with COD.
