PANTHER FOOTBALL TROUNCES LASW 62-25
The Panthers are now 4-0 on the 2023 season after a huge 62-25 win at LA Southwest Saturday night.
The Panther offense opened scoring with a first quarter drive that saw passes by Dereun Dortch and short rushing charges by Jayson Cortes (12 yards 7 plays) that culminated with a TD from just outside of the endzone. Anthony Hagan was 8:9 on PAT attempts. The Panthers repeated the offensive strategy minutes later taking the score to 14-0 to close out the quarter.
LA Southwest brought the game to within one point with two scoring drives in the 2nd but the Chaffey squad was not to be counted out, answering back with two Dortch touchdowns and the Panthers were up 28-13 at the half.
Three third quarter touchdowns by Chaffey put the game squarely in Panther territory and soon the board read 48-13. Fourth quarter play continued in much the same fashion.
Dortch managed 299 yards passing and 68 yards carrying the ball. Cortes had 15 carries for 73 yards. Wide receivers William Davis, Corey Cabriales, and Jeremiah Beck had 1 TD each with David leading the pack with 134 yards.
The Chaffey defense which has held opponents to an average of 16.25ppg was led by Syrano Ware with 8 tackles. Asaiah Levells-Joseph and Saadite Green Jr had seven each. Levells-Joseph also had a forced fumble and an interception in the Chaffey victory.
"We faced some adversity in the 1st half and our team responded," reflected Head Coach Darrin Chiaverini. "After LA Southwest scored to make it 14-13 our team outscored the Cougars 48-12. It's hard to win games at any level and to be 4-0 is a testament to our players and staff."
The Panthers host Pasadena City College Saturday night for the college's annual tailgate party. The Lancers are also 4-0 and are coming off a 43-14 win over Victor Valley.
