FOOTBALL EXTENDS STREAK TO EIGHT WINS
Panther Football continues to barrel through the 2023 season, remaining undefeated with a 41-27 win at College of the Desert.
Desert was first to post on the board off a 41-yard fieldgoal but the Chaffey squad answered back to take the lead 7-3 off a short pass from Dereun Dortch to Corey Cabriales. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 10-7.
Jayson Cortes started out the 2nd period with his sole TD of the night followed by a Dortch to Demajea Mitchell 35-yard pass into the endzone taking the game to 21-10. By the end of the half, COD scored again and the teams went into the locker rooms separated by only four points.
A 16-yard pass from Dortch to William Davis opened the 2nd half scoring volley that saw points posted by Chaffey, then Desert, then Chaffey again (Dortch 6 yard run in to score). After three periods, the Panthers extended the lead to ten, 34-24.
Once again, it was COD closing the gap with a field goal but a final 97-yard kickoff return by Ayer David sealed the deal and gave the Panthers' their 7th win of the 2023 season.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Compton College was forfeiting this Saturday's contest. The Panthers will take on Santa Ana next, November 4th in a battle for the conference championship. Both teams are undefeated since beginning the conference season on October 14th. Santa Ana has lost one game this season, their opener against Pasadena on September 1st. Chaffey easily defeated PCC 31-21 last month.
