In an aggressive, fast paced battle, Copper Mountain looked to be the team to break Chaffey's winning streak but it was not to be. The first half saw the up-and-coming Fighting Cacti only seven points down with the teams heading into the locker rooms at 31-24. By the 2nd half, the tides changed and the Panthers pulled away leading by as much as 20 points with just over a minute on the clock and a final score of 71-54.
The Panthers had three players in double digits including Manu Oulai with the game's only double-double. Darren Williams led the Panther scoring trio with 17 points. Donyae Molett added 16. Chaffey greatly out rebounded Copper Mountain (49-29) with Oulai and Johnson accounting for more than half of the Panther total.
"It was a hard fought battle," commented Molett. "We had some good shots and some lucky breaks and it all came together for the win. We still have some big games ahead of us. We're going to finish #1 and head to playoffs."
Chaffey plays their next three on the road including a big game next Saturday at Mt San Jacinto that could lock in the IEAC championship for the team.
