As the Rancho Cucamonga winds blew yesterday, the top ranked Panthers and El Camino Warriors battled it out to upset an early leader. The Warriors came into yesterday's game ranked 6th in the state, the Chaffey men 14th. It was the best matchup either team has seen so far this season.
It looked as if the teams would end with a 0-0 tie as Daniel Navarro for the Panthers and Luis Garibay for El Camino held off 11 combined shots at the net. With four minutes left on the clock, El Camino managed to get a single shot by the Panther defense. Chaffey battled until the final whistle but could not reciprocate the 2nd period goal, suffering their 2nd loss of the season. The entire game was a volleying battle of possession with both teams playing an extremely aggressive game both offensively and defensively.
Coach Cooper: "We expected a very good side from El Camino and they did not disappoint. The game was back-and-forth, both sides had some really good chances. Unfortunately, El Camino capitalized on one good opportunity late and sentenced the game. But, we learned a lot from the match - El Camino is the best team we've seen so far this season."
The men travel to Rio Hondo Friday.
