The men took on former conference rival Rio Hondo Friday, defeating the Roadrunner 4-1. Going into the half, the teams were tied 1-1 with the Panthers putting the first point on the board courtesy of a 1-2 from Miguel Correa and Daniel Alvarado. After the break, the Panthers came on strong scoring three successive goals and holding Rio's offense scoreless. Ivan Diaz, Marco Rodriguez, and Carlos Benito-Hernan got the ball to the back of the net for the Chaffey win. Daniel Navarro was at goal with five saves.
Ben Cooper's take: "Rio is always a tough place to play and the score wasn't indicative of the competitiveness of the game. It was much closer than the 4-1 score line. We played hard but for stretches of the game we had a hard time dealing with Rio's intensity on their home turf. We stayed patient and it paid off in the end."
The men continue the pre-conference season at Santa Barbara tomorrow and with a Friday home game against East LA. The Inland Empire Athletic Conference season opens the 15th at College of the Desert.
