"We made the long trip to Santa Barbara and found ourselves down 2-0 after only 6 minutes," recalled Head Coach Ben Cooper. The Panthers held SBCC to those two goals in the first half with Rylan Opatkiewicz at the net.
Chaffey came back from the break to score on a Marco Rodriguez unassisted goal. The Vaqueros answered back with two including a penalty shot to take their lead to 4-1. The Panthers closed ouot the game with two additional goals, also from Marco Rodriguez giving him a season high three in one game. "After we settled down, we played much better and nearly pulled out a draw on the last play of the game."
The two teams have a long history, "we'd love to see Santa Barbara again in the playoffs." SBCC is ranked 18th in the current state poll.
Chaffey hosts ELAC Friday in the final pre-conference game of the season and will open the IEAC season Monday, October 15th at College of the Desert.
