The Chaffey men took on LA City Thursday (delayed from Wednesday) in the 2022 CCCAA state play-in round, defeating the cubs in overtime 4-2.
Teams were scoreless in the first period but LA City came off the break to score two back-to-back in the 2nd half. With minutes left on the clock, the Panthers moved into power mode with Miguel Gonzalez Palo knocking the first past the LACC goalie at 87 minutes in. At the horn, Andres Ponce scored on a penalty kick to take the teams into overtime.
Diego (Giovanni) Marchan scored the first of the Panthers' two OT goals to break the tie and Erick Nuno secured the win with a second. Jonathan Zepeda secured the box for the entire 120 minutes of play, giving up 2 and racking up a season high 12 saves.
The win advances the Panthers to Round 1 of state playoffs against #3 Oxnard College on Saturday at 2pm. The game will be played at Oxnard.
