The Chaffey women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance in their home opener, defeating LA Trade-Tech with a strong 77-41 victory. The Panthers' dominated in all aspects of the game improving their record to 2-1.
Head Coach Kendyl Rizea was pleased with the team's performance, stating, "I'm very proud of how they defended our home court. All 18 players on our roster contributed to this win. We also rebounded well and was patient on offense, often passing up good shots for even better ones." Just as impressive, the team combined for 16 total assists.
The game also featured the team's annual food drive, where fans generously donated canned goods for free admission. In addition, over 50 high school students from Los Osos, Upland, and Citrus Valley High Schools attended the game, creating an amazing home court advantage for the Panthers.
Fatimah Sani and Aerilynn Young had outstanding performances. Sani recorded a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds (8 offensive), while shooting an impressive 60% from the field. Young also dominated the boards, securing 14 rebounds (7 offensive) and contributing 12 points with a 50% shooting percentage.
The Panthers' guard play on defense was suffocating, picking up full court for 40 minutes. Ty Peters, Jada Cuellar, and Mia Montejo definitely contributed to Aleksia Gadea's 5 steals.
Upcoming Game:
Chaffey College will host Citrus College on Saturday, November 9th, with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 PM. The game will be Veterans Appreciation Night, offering free admission to all current and former military personnel with valid identification.
