The ladies pulled off their 10th consecutive win Saturday afternoon defeating Santa Monica in round 1 of CCCAA playoffs. Chaffey came into the first round game seeded #6 in Southern California.
Against Santa Monica, the Panthers took a first period lead off a Jaiden Suchanek unassisted goal 21 minutes into play. Suchanek went on to score two additional goals in the 2nd period with assists by Angel Rodriguez and Neah Hayles. Chaffey's Savannah Ornealas held the Corsairs scoreless well into the 2nd period of play, giving up a dole goal at the 75 minute mark. Ornelas had four saves.
"It was nice to see that we were 100% ready to play our first playoff game," said Head Coach Grace Cooper. "With the performance we had today, I'm very confident moving forward. They showed fight and determination for 90 minutes exactly what you need to make a deep playoff run!"
The Panthers advance to take on #3 Santiago Canyon tomorrow at 2pm. "Our second round opponent, Santiago Canyon College, are defending state champions and we've seen them in the playoffs before. We know very well what they are capable of and will come into the game knowing it will be a battle." The Hawks tied #19 Santa Ana Saturday, advancing in playoffs off an overtime PK battle.
