It took the #1 team in the nation to finally get a ball past the Chaffey women, as the Panthers hosted Saddleback in the rival match of the season yesterday. The Panthers gave up two goals in the 2-1 loss. it was their first loss of the season, and the first goals against the 2023 squad.
Saddleback came on strong scoring their first goal four minutes into play. The Panthers were on the board three minutes later off a Gisele Speirs shot. it was Speirs' 6th goal of the season (14th in the state for scoring).
The tie held through the break but the Bobcats got one past Jessica Collins shortly into the 2nd period and the Panthers were unable to again find the back of the net despite multiple shots on goal. Collins had three saves.
The Panthers, ranked #1 in the state in today's CCCSIA poll, will host Pasadena Friday afternoon. The Lancers are currently ranked #16 in the state.
