LA Harbor
The Chaffey Panthers traveled to Wilmington to face 14th-ranked LA Harbor in a non-conference doubleheader and held strong, pulling out a 4-1 8-inning win and a 7-2 victory in game two.
Game 1 was a pitcher's duel with freshman Alexya Naranjo holding LA Harbor to just two hits.
The Panthers had 8 hits and drew 8 walks in the game but stranded 13 baserunners. Finally, in the top of the 8th inning, shortstop Coie Carter plated the first run of the game and freshman first baseman Hailey Marquez followed that with an RBI. Later in the frame, sophomore second baseman Lexi Alaniz-Diaz knocked in two more, aided by great baserunning by sophomore Alyah Rueff.
Chaffey then held LA Harbor to an RBI single to end the game.
Rueff and freshman outfielder Katie Avellaneda each collected a pair of hits and 2 stolen bases.
Game two was a slugfest compared to game one, as each team hit a pair of home runs. Sophomore third baseman Marisa Marquez went 2-4 with a 2-run home run and a pair of runs scored. Marquez finished with four hits on the day.
Hailey Marquez blasted a 3-run shot in the 7th inning to put the game out of reach. Hailey had 4 RBI in the twinbill.
Rueff and Avellaneda each collected two more hits and a stolen base apiece in the second game.
Freshman pitcher Victoria Morton went the distance for the win, allowing 7 hits and two runs, while striking out three.
Chaffey evened its record at 10-10 midway through the 2023 campaign with the pair of victories.
