The Chaffey softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at San Diego Mesa on Monday. The Panthers mercy-ruled the home team 14-2 in 5 innings in the first game but then dropped a tough 9-7 decision in game two. Chaffey is now 14-12 on the season with a 5-2 conference mark.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first game, Chaffey scored in each of the final four innings. Centerfielder Alyah Rueff collected three hits, including a triple, stole a base and had one RBI. Freshman Hailey Marquez went 3-4 with a home run and a pair of RBI.
Freshman catcher Victoria Esparza tallied 4 RBI, going 2-2 at the plate with a double and home run.
Starting pitcher Alexya Naranjo went the distance, scattering 7 hits to pick up her 8th win of the season.
In game 2, the Panthers were led by freshman Coie Carter, who went 3-4 with a triple, two RBI and 2 stolen bases. Hailey Marquez had another home run and three RBI and freshman Selah Dominguez also hit a round-tripper for Chaffey.
