PANTHER SOFTBALL GETS ROAD WIN AT SADDLEBACK
The Chaffey Panthers softball team picked up their 3rd win of the season with an 8-5 road victory over Saddleback College on Tuesday. The host Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. In the third inning Chaffey finally put together some offense when sophomore center fielder Katie Avellaneda laced a 1-out single and promptly stole second and third. Sophomore catcher Victoria Esparza ripped a triple down the left field line to knock in Avellaneda and then scored on a 2-out double by sophomore first baseman Hailey Marquez to cut the deficit to one run.
Freshman pitcher Brooklyn Fristrom took over for starter Amanda Sera in the bottom of the third and went the rest of the way, throwing five innings and allowing just three hits while striking out three and picking up her third win of the season.
In the fifth inning, the Panthers broke open the game with four runs to take a 6-3 lead. Following a one-out Esparza double, Chaffey added four RBI singles in the inning, capped by freshman shortstop Savanah Handley's hit to right field.
Chaffey added some cushion in the top of the 7th with back-to-back RBI singles by freshman outfielder Delaney Barber and Avellaneda.
The Panthers are back at home for games on Wednesday (Citrus College), Thursday (Hancock College) and Friday (a doubleheader against Moorpark College).
