The Chaffey Panthers picked up their first doubleheader sweep of the season as they topped visiting Santa Barbara 6-4 in game one and 12-6 in game two.
Freshman lefty Amanda Sera picked up the complete game one win, scattering seven hits while striking out eight. In game two, Sera came on in relief and picked up her second win of the day as Chaffey pulled away late to open up the final margin.
In the opener, Sophomore second baseman Katie Avellaneda was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Sophomore shortstop Victoria Esparza also went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Trailing 4-1 in game two, the Panthers erupted for a 4-run third inning to take the lead. The Vaqueros responded to tie the game in the 5th inning before Chaffey finally pulled away.
Five Panthers tallied two hits in the game, led by freshman centerfielder Delaney Barber, who was 2-4 with a stolen base and three RBI. Freshman left fielder Megan Aranda was also 2-4 at the plate, with a double, 2 RBI and a pair of runs scored. Freshman third baseman Vivian Medinilla went 2-3 with 2 RBI and three runs scored.
Chaffey improves to 7-10 on the season (1-0 in conference) and travels to College of the Canyons on Tuesday.
