SOFTBALL SNAGS A 3-PEAT CONFERENCE TITLE WITH DOUBLEHEADER WINS AT VICTOR VALLEY
Panther Softball earned their 3rd consecutive conference title with two wins at Victor Valley yesterday and end the regular season 10-2 IEAC and 19-17 overall. Head Coach Jerry Tivey has led the Panthers to three championships in his three complete seasons at Chaffey. As conference champions, the Panthers will enter the 2024 3C2A regional playoffs on May 3rd with an opening weekend home series likely. Post season honors will be announced by May 1st.
The Chaffey softball team made it a 3-Peat on Wednesday as it swept a final regular season doubleheader at Victor Valley College. The Panthers won game one by a score of 10-5 and then roared back in game two with a 5-inning mercy-rule 10-1 victory.
The sweep gives Chaffey three conference championships in a row, the first time that has been achieved in Chaffey softball history. The Panthers will open playoffs on Tuesday, April 30 at a site and opponent to be determined.
In game one, freshman Amanda Sera picked up the win in the circle while also going 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.
Sophomore center fielder Katie Avellaneda was 3-5 with 2 runs, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Freshman second baseman Samantha Vasquez went 2-4 with a triple, a run, an RBI and a stolen base.
Sera continued her success in game two, scattering five hits to pick up her second win of the day. At the plate she was 2-3 with a run scored.
Vivian Medinilla, a freshman third baseman, went a perfect 3-3 with a run and a pair of RBI. Medinilla was 5-7 on the day, scoring 3 runs and knocking in three more.
Freshman outfielder Megan Aranda (the state player of the week), had another great day, collecting five hits, including a double and a triple while scoring 3 runs, picking up 3 RBI and snagging a stolen base.
Chaffey finished the regular season at 10-2 in conference and 21-17 overall (the third straight 20-win season for softball).
