The Chaffey Panthers softball team hosted Mt. San Jacinto College in a pivotal conference matchup. Both teams entered the game undefeated, with Chaffey holding a 5-0 record and Mt. San Jacinto a 4-0 record.
In the opening game, Chaffey seized an initial 2-0 advantage in the second inning, with RBIs from sophomore Megan Aranda and freshman Danielle Singley. Unfortunately , the Panthers' offensive momentum stopped there. With multiple defensive lapses, such as three critical errors, which gave the Eagles six unearned runs, Mt. San Jacinto was able to grab the first game 9-2.
Shifting gears to the second game, sophomore pitcher Tori Morton once again delivered an outstanding performance for Chaffey. Morton pitched a dominant 1-0 shutout, limiting the Eagles to seven hits while striking out three.
Over her recent four starts, Morton has only given up a single, leading to three impressive shutouts. In 23 innings, she has 19 strikeouts.
Chaffey was able to put a run up on the scoreboard in the third inning, the games only run. Sophomore Amanda Sera started the offense with a sharp leadoff single, immediately followed by a well-hit double from sophomore Samantha Vasquez, which easily drove Sera home, giving the Panthers the 1-0 lead, and eventual win. Despite numerous scoring opportunities, the Panthers could not convert, leaving runners in scoring position stranded in five of six innings.
