Bio

Panthers' new head softball coach, Jerry Tivey, comes to Chaffey College after spending the last seven seasons as the head coach at rival San Bernardino Valley College.  Tivey took over the Wolverines in 2013 and promptly led them to their first CCCAA Playoff appearance in 15 years.  The following season his team won the Foothill Conference Championship.  In six years he amassed 95 wins, more than any other softball coach in SBVC history.  He also coached two conference players of the year and one all-state selection.

Tivey is entering his 37th season of coaching, with 17 seasons as a basketball coach and 32 years as a softball coach.  As the head softball coach at Cajon High School, Tivey won 13 San Andreas League Championships in 21 seasons, and in 19 of those years finished first or second in league.  His teams were ranked #1 in CIF in 7 different seasons and he reached the final four on five separate occasions and the CIF Championship game twice, winning in 2006.  As head basketball coach, his teams won three league titles and 101 games in 5 seasons, topping 20 wins four times and reaching at least the 3rd round of the CIF playoffs in each of his last three years, including a #2 CIF ranking.

All told, his teams have won over 650 games and 17 league/conference championship.  Along the way, Tivey has coached 17 All-American selections and scores of 4-year scholarship athletes.  He was named the San Bernardino County Coach of the Year in 2000, 2006 and 2008 and named the California State High School Coach of the Year in 2009.

His athletes have played for the University of Tennessee, Fresno State, UNLV, Nebraska, San Jose St., the Texas Longhorns, New Mexico St., Cal State San Bernardino, Iowa St., Long Beach St., the Oklahoma Sooners, and numerous other NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 programs.

Tivey lives in Riverside, California, with his wife (Debbie — who is also a high school teacher), their sons (Jake — a senior at the University of Redlands; Jaxon — a sophomore in college) and their three dogs (Max, Bambi, Echo).  They also have three adult daughters (Bradi, Kristin, Brianna).
